Dr. Arvind Kumar

Dr. Arvind Kumar is Chairman of the Institute of Chest Surgery, Chest Onco-Surgery and Lung Transplantation at Medanta. His hospital profile records over 15,000 thoracic surgeries, of which more than 8,000 were done by minimally invasive (VATS) or robotic methods, and states that he pioneered robotic chest surgery in India in 2008.

He operates on surgical disease of the chest — the lungs, pleura, mediastinum, trachea, oesophagus, chest wall and diaphragm, including chest trauma. Medanta describes his experience in the surgical management of thymic disease such as myasthenia gravis and thymoma, including robotic thymectomy, as the largest in the country.

He completed his MBBS and MS at AIIMS, New Delhi, and served there on the faculty for 24 years, latterly as Professor of Surgery and Head of the Thoracic and Robotic Surgery Unit. Before joining Medanta he was Chairman of the Centre for Chest Surgery and Lung Transplantation and Director of the Institute of Robotic Surgery at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, for eight years.
